The Coupon Binder (Savings Bible)

For those of you all that like to save and use coupons. I will try to help you become a little more organized so you will not be in such a frazzle while shopping & trying to save.

Here is a list of things needed to make your Ultimate Coupon Binder:
3 in. Heavy Duty Binder

School Dividers

Baseball Card Sheet Protectors

Coupons (of course)

Step 1:
Place the baseball card sheet protectors in the binder.
Step 2:
Section off the sheet protectors about 5 pages per section then use the dividers to separate the sections.
Step 3:
Decide on how you would like to label your dividers:
Health & Beauty (otc meds, dental care, body wash, lotion, deordorant, etc)
Household Items (cleaning products, detergent, air freshers,paper products etc)
Frozen/Cold Food (pizzas, yogurt, ice cream, meat, etc)
Condiments (salad dressing, ketchup, dipping sauces, etc)
Cereals/Grains (self explanatory)
Step 4:
Place coupons in the perspective sections. Make sure you keep like items on the same page. This makes it easier for you to find the coupons when you are in the store.

Step 5:
Go to the store with binder in hand. Use the part of the basket where you usually put kids as your binder holder.

Step 6:
Go to the store that has a sales ad you have already seen the items that are on sale. Find your items and take the coupons out as you go. When you are done you should have a basket of items and coupons in your hand. Let the cashier scan all of your items. Hand her your coupons, then savings card (if the store has one) & then you are ready to pay.

You now had your 1st savings trip!

Couponing 101

Coupons have become a valued asset in my home for a couple of months. I currently have a nice stock pile with most of the staples needed for basic living. But we all know couponing isn't for everyone. I have people tell me that "they don't have the time to do it" or "I just don't like shopping like that". Well, I'm totally opposite.

I love to shop: from shoes to paper towels. I shop for it all and do it with a smile on my face. It actually relaxes me. Yeah, I know "how could spending money actually relax you". It's really simple: Common Cents

Well, those inserts that come in the Sunday paper, Birmingham Extra, online or in stores are the reason. They are called COUPONS! I use them for everything. It is very rare that I buy something without using a coupon. I almost feel that I am being cheated if I don't use a coupon.
I know it is kind of cliche for me to say "I cut my spending in half by using coupons" but it does happen that way. I don't have a house full of products I don't use like some of the Extreme Couponers out there. I do have an influx of things I use and paid little or nothing for them also. I bet you are wondering how I did it, Huh?!?!

The main thing in couponing & saving is being ORGANIZED. If you are not an Type A personality this probably would not be good for you. Most couponers have a Type A personality, are very detailed & overly organized. That would be me. I don't spend 40 hours a week doing this because I work a full-time job, I'm a mother and a wife. But I spend enough time couponing for the benefit it gives to my family. We have extra money to go on more vacations, participate in more activities & increase our family time(only when they want to help).

Couponing has worked for my family and our pockets. But like I said it isn't for everyone. My theory is just because I have money doesn't mean I want to spend every dime of it. So how much money would you like to keep in your pocket rather than left in the cash register at Target, Wal-Mart, Publix, Winn-Dixie or the mall? Don't worry the question was rhetorical but worth thinking about.

Back to the Basics

With the economy being in the state it is in, it's important to retreat & regroup back to the basics. The basic everyday living while saving as you go. Right now, the jobless rate is high & the cost of living is even higher. How do we manuever around being stuck in between the 2? It's simple: Use common cents(sense).

Every week stores use their marketing budget to produce sale ads. Most people don't even take the time to look at them & in turn, end up paying a pricey penny for it. These sales ads feature different items sold at discount prices. Why wouldn't everyone want to shop to get basic essentials for less than regular price? Your guess is as good as mine.
Some where along the lines of living, we forgot about the value of a dollar. We see it, we want it then we buy it; without a bat of an eyelid. We are now suffering from the spoil rotten syndrome.

With everything being right here and right now, nobody values money that is here today & could possibly be gone tomorrow. Reverting back to the basics will have money here today and a nice reserve for later as well. Which would you prefer to have: an empty pocket or some type of cushion to brace your unintended fall?
